AACN email lists
AACN is pleased to offer two electronic mailing lists for members. These lists are used extensively for discussion of clinical, ethical, professional, and research issues in clinical neuropsychology. AACN members often mention how much they value the discussions that occur on the lists. The first list, AACN-list@umich.edu, is reserved for AACN members (all of whom are board certified in clinical neuropsychology through ABCN). The second list, AACN-CD@umich.edu, is the clinical discussions (CD) list. It includes nearly everyone on the first list plus AACN affiliate members. AACN affiliate members are individuals who pay yearly dues to receive The Clinical Neuropsychologist and some other perks. They have not been board certified in clinical neuropsychology through ABCN. Consequently, this list has more members than the first list above. Please note that AACN members or affiliates must be in good standing (i.e., dues paid) to remain on the list(s).

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding the AACN E-mail Lists


Q: Why am I not receiving any messages? Was I dropped from the list?

A: No one is ever dropped from either e-mail list without a clear reason and advance notification. List members and affiliates must remain in good standing with AACN, or list membership will be revoked. List membership also may be suspended at the discretion of the AACN Board of Directors for violations of the list guidelines. If you are an AACN member or affiliate member in good standing but are still not receiving messages, please make sure that you have provided your current e-mail address to AACN. Next, please check to make sure that your e-mail application is not blocking messages from AACN-list@umich.edu or AACN-CD@umich.edu. Occasionally, messages may get wrongly labeled as spam or bulk mail. If you continue to have difficulties after checking your spam or bulk mail settings, please contact the list administrator.

Q: I updated my e-mail address in the online directory, but I am still receiving list messages at my old address. What's the deal?

A: The online directory of AACN members is not, at least at present, linked to the software used to manage the e-mail lists. To change your e-mail address on AACN-list or AACN-CD, please follow the instructions below.

Q: How do I: 1) change the e-mail address where I am receiving list messages; 2) set digest mode; or 3) stop receiving messages while I'm on vacation?

A: Go to: https://listserver.itd.umich.edu/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=aacn-list (for AACN-list) or https://listserver.itd.umich.edu/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=aacn-cd (for AACN-CD). Enter your e-mail address and password. If you have never logged in before and do not have a password, or if you have forgotten it, then enter your e-mail address only at the bottom. The listserver will then automatically generate a password and e-mail it to you. After receiving it (which is usually in a matter of minutes), simply go back to the page above and log in with it. You will then see the following screen:

Click on Your Settings. You will then see the following page:


On this page, you may change your e-mail address and/or password. Also, this is the page where you may set your preferences for mail delivery. Click on the arrow in the Status field. The following choices are available:

The default setting, mail, is shown above. If this option is selected, you will receive each message as it is posted to the list. Selecting digest or mimedigest, by contrast, will result in your receiving one e-mail message each day with all of that day's postings. Please note that some members have reported problems with the digest format. The messages sometimes appear garbled or ensconced within lots of formatting code. The reasons for this happening are multiple, but have to do with whether you are reading plain text vs. HTML messages, as well as your individual e-mail software's configuration. If you prefer the digest format but encounter the problem described above, try setting your status to mimedigest instead. Some people report better message clarity with that setting. If, after trying both options, you continue to struggle with excess formatting code (or garbage characters) mixed into the message content, you may feel free to contact the list administrator for assistance.

The index option does not result in receiving messages, only subject lines for messages. Most people will not prefer this option. Finally, you may set your status to nomail, which means (like it sounds) that you will not receive any messages from the list until you change your status again. Importantly, setting your status to nomail will not unsubscribe you from the list! In fact, you may still read messages through the archives or even as they are posted through the web-based interface. You will simply not receive any messages by e-mail until you change your setting. Members often do this when they are going away for vacation.

After making your selection, be sure to click the Save button at the bottom of the page!

Q: What are the list archives? How do I access them?

A: The list archives include all of the messages posted to AACN-list and AACN-CD since 2/12/07. On this date, the lists were moved to the University of Michigan from the Mayo Clinic. To access archived messages, follow the instructions below.

1. Go to: https://listserver.itd.umich.edu/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=aacn-list (for AACN-list) or https://listserver.itd.umich.edu/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=aacn-cd (for AACN-CD).

2. Enter your e-mail address and password. If you have never logged in before and do not have a password, or if you have forgotten it, then enter your e-mail address only at the bottom. The listserver will then automatically generate a password and e-mail it to you. After receiving it (which is usually in a matter of minutes), simply go back to the page above and log in with it.

3. Once logged in, click on Read Messages. You may then scroll through the messages listed, jump backward by a prespecified number of messages, sort them by date or author, and do a full-text search.
